Essential Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):
• Care for horses to protect their health and improve their appearance
• Feeding and watering horses, managing supplements, basic equine first aid
• Bring in and turnout horses
• Cleans and beds stalls
• Keep facility neat and clean at all times
• As needed, perform landscaping duties such as weed eating, shoveling walks and driveways, and some light carpentry and facility repairs
Perform daily duties of a large farm operation which includes production of row crops, vegetable crops, maintenance of buildings, grounds, roadways and the operation and maintenance of all farm equipment utilizing inmate workforce. Major roles expected of this position are:
• Serve as collaborator with external partners, cultivating strategic participation with a diverse array of farmers and landowners, agency and government personnel, and professional associations. Particular focus will be given to expanding the audience of historically underserved farmers.
• Organize and collaborate with academic and agency partners to achieve grant deliverables: 1) Collaborate with partners to coordinate strategies and activities (approaches); 2) Use these approaches to manage and organize routine engagement with producers; 3) Ensure standardization and utilization of partnership procedures and on-farm practices; 4) Create outreach information and implement education
• Communicate programming information and teach grazing management practices and strategies to farmer-stakeholders
• Expand and diversify outreach
• Ensure tracking and reporting of activities, deliverables, invoicing, logistics
• Develop routine reports and updates for agency and internal and external partners
The Farm Assistant/Interpreter will assist in the responsibilities for the daily care of the Frontier Culture Museum’s various animals, as well as the maintenance of gardens, field crops, and general plant care. Duties include assisting management and other staff with the following; observation and inspection of animals, reporting of any health concerns to management, maintaining a schedule of feeding, pasture rotation, paddock maintenance, training/socialization, and health checks, as well as keeping relevant records of the animals, starting seeds for historic plant varieties, weeding, planting, watering, fertilizing, and harvesting crops, seed collection and storage, pruning and propagation of plants, pest identification and control, and researching appropriate plant varieties and historic agricultural practices.
The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the Augusta Health Farm, including, but not limited to: seed starting, planting, performing farm maintenance, harvesting, post-harvest processing, delivering crops and maintaining records. The Farm Manager will supervise Farm Team members, coordinate community benefit programming and weekly point of sale markets and will serve as an ambassador of the Augusta Health Farm.
